Join us as our Director of Clinical Research and develop and oversee the research efforts including working with academic experts, veterinarians, and allied health professionals to conduct and oversee clinical trials. You will enable and facilitate research while providing the infrastructure to ensure the research is conducted in accordance with all governing laws and regulations. Four years of experience in a leadership position or equivalent expertise is desired.

About us
This position requires an in-depth knowledge of the ethical conduct of research, research site practices, and federal regulations. Manages day-to-day activities required to facilitate clinical research implementation and provides hands-on support as necessary.

About this role
- Oversee Clinical Trials Team Coordinators and Participate in Clinical Trial Sample and Data Collection – Responsible for recruiting supervising technicians and overseeing performance management and professional development. Assists with or takes primary responsibility for sample and data collection from individual trial participants to ensure study progress continues as planned without interruption or delayed or incomplete sampling.
- Collaborate on Strategy Development for Division – Collaborates with the School administrative team on strategy development for all operational activities and ensures that appropriate strategies are aligned with institutional objectives
- Develop Standardized Processes and Ensure Financial Stewardship – Ensure streamlined and standardized processes, eliminate redundancies and ensure sound financial stewardship of space, equipment, and expenditures.
- Develop and Maintain Collaborative Partnerships – Acts as a liaison between the commercial partner specialists and the clinical team. Develops and maintains collegial and collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders, including but not limited to alumni, industry, and legislators across the state and beyond
- Other duties as assigned by leadership

About you
Minimum Qualifications:
DVM OR VMD, LVT, CVT, RVT with four years of experience in a leadership position or equivalent expertise.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree with prior experience in research activities desired
Specific experience: Clinical trial operations and advanced management skills, proven leadership, mentoring and supervisory skills, superior organizational and change management skills, advanced public speaking, writing, presentation, and negotiating skills, ability to delegate tasks appropriately, influence behavior, and drive performance, advanced working knowledge of study start-up activities (i.e., feasibility, budget development, contract negotiation, and regulatory affairs), advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite (including MS Project, Excel, and PowerPoint), and clinical trial management systems
Special or Physical Qualifications:
Essential Personnel – This position may be required to report to campus in a time of emergency and/or closure per PS-18
Able to answer phone calls after hours from students for issues regarding the department. May be required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements – Required to be cable of lifting up to 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, vision near sight, vision far sight, able to reach below the shoulder, pushing, pulling, grasping, bending, crawling, squatting, and/or twisting.
Vehicle Operation – University employees whose principal responsibilities of employment include operating a vehicle, performing maintenance on a vehicle, or supervising any public employee who operates or maintains a vehicle and positions with an expectation to travel will require an MVR and are subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
Safety and Security Sensitive Job – Safety and security-sensitive positions are defined as those positions where any form of substance abuse may affect University activities through unsafe work behavior/performance or error in judgment; or where substance abuse could jeopardize the safety and well-being of employees, other personnel, or the general public, or cause significant damage to University property. This includes positions requiring firearms, access to controlled substances, handling hazardous material, operating heavy equipment or machinery, etc. These positions are subject to drug screens per PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
FERPA – As with all LSU employees, due to this position’s title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health-related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students, or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.
